historic Bedford

We went to Bedford over the weekend, a scenic drive away, through the rolling hills/mountains of Pennsylvania. It was rainy most of the weekend, so we didn't do much except stay in and have (lots of) warm apple cider! We also did a walking tour of "downtown" Bedford with a very humorous and enthusiastic guide. Bedford is famous for its springs that were believed to have curative powers (about 150 years ago), and was also a summer resort area that important people came to visit, to cool down and avoid hot smog in the city (probably before they invented aircon). The resort has since been restored and was really pretty without being too ornate. We also met some friends up here, which was really cool, as was the weather.
