Ice Sculptures
Pretty winter things at another christmas shoot... too bad they can't be done indoors in a heated room
there was also a live reindeer at the event. and I overhead this fascinated boy say to his dad, "Wow dad, it's Santa's reindeer! How did he get here?!"
and the dad said flatly, "He came in a truck."

Fireworks
quick shot from a shoot last night at a college that had a Christmas event going on... which included a nice fireworks display. In Singapore, I guess we get to see fireworks once or twice a year, but here fireworks come out pretty often-- to celebrate the start and end of summer, spring, independence day, christmas, random community day-- pretty much any event you want to light!
it was snowing (which got me worried abt wetting the camera) but fortunately it didn't last long... and the other activities were indoors (like talking to santa claus.. who told all the kids to be good and do well in school, asked them what they wanted for christmas and made sure the parents could hear their request)

Avocado and bacon muffins
Decided to make a batch of savory muffins since I need to snack once every so often! They turned out pretty good, made with nitrate-free bacon too! I'd like to think they are slightly more nutritious than plain sugar snacks. Haha

Bubble day
made it to most photo assignments in the pukey period... with only one mishap in the car when I missed puking in the plastic bag while driving! thank goodness K. was at home to clean the seat belt while I ran off to clean myself!
these photos are from an event at the local library, in line with their theme for the kid's reading program..

4 months to go
Hi friends,
thanks for the concern and for wondering why I haven't been posting. Well, as my hubby puts it, the last couple of months of life weren't funny (at all)! I was throwing up pretty much most of the time, and hung around long enough at the desk and in the cyberworld to finish my work... before going back into a horizontal, or worse, a 90 degree position bent over the toilet bowl! I've come to appreciate deeper bowls, they have less of a backsplash when your stomach contents come hurtling out.
So, life is much better now, I have some energy back and some digestive powers back... it's all good and I can type smiley faces again :)
The reason of course for the weeks of tummy upsets and fatigue is that we will be having a kid in 4 months God willing! It is finally sinking in, thanks to ultrasound technology (you get to see that there really IS an organism living in your tummy) and the fact that I'm feeling better in general. The complexity and perfection of the pregnancy process so far awes and amazes me, it's all very precise and well thought out, and we humans contribute very little to it, if anything at all! I think this nausea experience has given me a greater emphathy for people who have had to do chemotherapy.. because a friend who did go through it shared her experience, and while it lasts (for her) a week after the treatment, it is certainly a challenging time.

Meals on Wheels
Did a story this week with the paper on a program called Meals on Wheels, which is basically a daily food delivery service to the elderly or disabled. It's an initiative that runs in several US cities, and is mostly volunteer and church- based and funded.
This pair of volunteers stood out to me, the lady had been volunteering for more than 20 years with Meals on Wheels, and her recently retired husband is now volunteering as well. I'm not sure how many shifts they deliver a week, but they are in the same age group as some of the people who have requested meals. The lady reminded me a lot of my grandma, and how she helps out at an old folks' home, despite her nearing 90 years old.
Helping others is not limited by age it seems, but by attitude.

swimming event in princeton in march
We went to support a friend in a swimming event this past March. The event was held at Princeton University, and we took the opportunity to walk around the school campus and the adjoining shopping street. Nice stone buildings, all historical, complete with ivy climbing up the sides... not my kind of school but very pretty nevertheless!

godsend of the day
After a shoot today, I plugged my memory card into the computer to download images. To my horror, the card was corrupted, but the images were recorded (I had checked earlier in-camera). Fortunately, with this program and a lot of prayer, http://www.cardrescue.com/the images were recovered. time to get a new memory card.

spring
Tulips have come up in front of our house, we didn't plant them, we didn't water them until later, didn't fertilise them... basically we can't take credit for them in any way.
Most likely the heavy snowfall and mound of snow that used to cover this patch slowly watered the tulip bulbs, and then at just the right time, they pushed up through the soil to get some sunlight. Sometimes the silver lining of something not so pleasant (lots of snow) comes only later.
